Shattered Galaxy -- cvswinex

Shattered Galaxy loads fine and I can login with no problems. Everything plays normally, but after a couple of minutes (no more than 3 minutes, I suppose) the game just quits! This happens every time I try to play. This is what the terminal spits out:

Code:

Anyone know what's going on?

Oh, and just for the record, Steam works like a charm.

What version of Wine is this (meaning when was it installed, and via what means, and generally which version of Wine X does it hopefully conform to)?

There seems to be a problem with a specific library: libd3dgl.so. Do you have the ability ot run this game in OpenGL or software mode rather than DirectX (does the game give you a choice of renderers)? If so, does another renderer work better?

Have you checked the Transgaming forums and the Wine Application database to see if others have had similar problems running this game?

When I do "cvswinex -v", all it says is WineX CVS. I think it's WineX 3.3.1. I compiled and installed it about a month ago.

The game doesn't give a choice of renderers.

Yes, I checked both the forum and the app database and all I learned was that it needs a native urlmon.dll to login (otherwise it crashes). I did that, and that's how I can login and play.

So you're playing online, then? What are you doing when the game crashes? How does it crash (directly to desktop with no errors, in-game error message before crash, freeze/halt and must be manually closed, visual or audio glitches before crashing)?

urlmon.dll suggests that this game needs some IE components to run. Is that the case? If so, did you install IE under Wine? Frank's Corner has instructions on how to do so.

You might also want to go to the unofficial WineX IRC channel at #winex on irc.freenode.net . I've heard that they're pretty helpful over there.

Yeah, I'm able to play online, and after a few minutes it just closes to the desktop cleanly. It happens no matter what I'm doing.

I didn't install IE, I just copied urlmon.dll from my windows machine.

I visited the winex IRC channel, and I learned that I have a "bad" glu lib and that the WineX binary has a much better one. I'd rather just be able to buy it instead of having to subscribe... but oh well, I might as well give it a shot.

Please let us (me, actually) know how it works out (the subscription binary, that is). I've been looking more closely at the CVS WineX version now that I know a little more about these things, and while the CVS version does work for a lot of things, the more I look at it, the more it looks like a very few, if any, of the current files thrown in with a very old version of the source (if you look at the readme, it's version 2.something). I'm becoming less and less convinced that it's a stripped down version of the current source, minus the proprietary stuff, and more convinced that it's.... misrepresented by implication... to discourage leeching and encourage subscriptions.

Which is not necessarily unethical, if you're trying to make money, but does leave a bad taste in the mouth. So if I am being "herded" into subscribing, I'd at least like to know that it's going to be worth it, since I'm none too pleased at this practice.

Hey, sorry about the delay. I had to go to my dad's cabin over the weekend to clean the place up.

Anyway, there has been a change of plans and I'm not going to be trying the WineX subscription. To make a long story short, my computer is getting taken away soon (not for any illegal activity or anything ), so I won't have Linux anymore. I do have another computer running Windows 98SE, but it's old and not very good for games enough as it is already! If I get a new computer sometime soon (doubtful), I'll try subscribing then.
