SDL sound problems with Quake 2 and Tenebrae

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
I'm trying to get Quake 2 and Tenebrae (a Quake 1 engine with updated graphics) working in Ubuntu Edgy. Both games use SDL for sound, and in both games the sound is what might be described as fuzzy or crackling. I've tried messing around with the configuration files with both games, but to no avail. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem? I know very little about SDL.
