make sure nothing else is using the soundard...

make sure in your x configuration file there's a line that reads:

Load "glx"

what kinda video card are you using?? which drivers?

i'm not sure how'd you'd check that technically, i'd just use common sense, i guess...

you can use something like esound to be able to have different progs use the card at the same time... it comes included in slackware...

Post the output of "ps aux" it will help diagnose what might be using your soundcard.

(I have slackware 10 - the best release I know to date ^_^)

Chances are if you using the default kernels in slackware 10, you have alsa enabled; which has its device files elseware in '/dev/snd/' under a different name. You also might want to try using 'aoss' if the AA is trying to use OSS sound rather than ALSA (most quake-based games I've encountered needs to run as root or given permission to the sound devices)

(Also if your soundcard has hardware mixing you might want to try this http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=DmixPlugin
so you no longer need Arts or esd or the like (I got it working with Intel sound ))

I had problems with this too....I use "artsdsp -m armyops" and works fine......Don't know what it does, it just worked for Enemy Territory so I used it for AA also....
