Quake4 demo shows me a message I don't understand

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
I downloaded quake4-linux-1.0-demo.x86.run using bittorent network and installed it signed in as root. After that I tried to play the game but when I typed a commad quake4-demo (readme says to do it) I received a message

lord:~# quake4-demo
./quake4.x86: libgcc_s.so.1: version `GCC_4.2.0' not found (required by /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6)

I don't understand it. What shell I do to play the game? What is wrong? I tried playing it logged in both as root and a normal user.

Try running
Code:
gcc --version
and see what it says. For me it says it's "gcc (GCC) 4.1.2". When you try to run your file you're doing it all right, but the game seems to complain it's not finding GCC version 4.2.0 (or newer). Hopefully it's not really that you should update your gcc, but with a quick look it does seem like it's that.

Unfortunately, you are right. Is there any way to get it round and run the game?
