quake3 mouse delay

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
I am experiencing a terrible mouse delay whilst playing quake3. That is, the computer takes about half a second to respond to movements of the mouse. It responds to clicks immediately.

The delay is apparent in the first menu (where you select single player, multiplayer, etc), it disappears in the level selection menu and then reappears once the level is started.

Tests so far:

- mouse works fine in kde
- it is not the mouse that is faulty: same mouse works fine on another machine and another mouse has same problem on this machine.
- I get the get the same delay if I switch from a ps2 to a usb mouse

Can anyone offer any advice on how to fix this, or any other diagnostic tests to make?

Many thanks, reetep.

Hmm, well I am not exactly for sure what is causing this. But, roughly 3yrs ago when I still used windows I would get a mouse delay if I had the resolution up to high, just as you are describing.

hit the tilde key ~ and type timedemo 1 then go to where the demo's are and click on the one that is in there. I know if it was under 60fps I would get that mouse lag. Unfortunately, I have no other ideas why this mouse lag would happen and doubt that my solution will work as most probably you are getting over 60fps I would assume already.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry I haven't got back sooner - my connection has been down

Anyway, glad to say the problem is now fixed. Not sure what was causing it, but by resetting to default settings using the quake menu I made it go away.

This seems to suggest that the problem was something like having mouse smoothing enabled, but I'm sure I tried all that. Never mind - it works now anyway

Thanks again for your suggestion.
