Quake III Source Code released!
hey gang,
got some good news for the gaming community, havent seen this pop up yet but here it is.. ID software released the entire source code of Quake III Arena under the GPL.. I've tried to download and the site is swamped with users downloading it.. I wonder if it will be possible to compile the linux client via the source code released.. the site claims theres only the windows version of it thats been released thus far.. maybe someone here can unlock the secret? |
This is good news can't wait for the linux port.

Hello,
Anyone know if Q3 mods run on the source version (ie. without original content). ThX, JVFF |
Can you give some link to GPL-ed linux source code?

note: not the entire game was released under the gpl, some data like textures werent included :(... seems to me like they only released the quake III arena engine out, which would let other programmers to take it and make thier own games with it.. Now if we can get some dedicated linux programmers on this... ;);) |
Edit: is it actually written in C++? I'm getting confused as I thought filename.c was just for C source code files.
|
The source includes the linux code as well, from what I have read it is written entirely in C.
I have also read that the engine alone is not enough to run any TC's by themselves because almost all the TC's require the orginal pak files. So it will take some time before any of this code is useable by itself without the orginal game. |
well, if someone does manages to produce a TC/OSP standalone with this code, give us a shout on this thread :D.. I know I'm going to be looking around for them..
