Quake 3 stopped working after installing NVIDIA drivers

OS: Red Har 8.0

I had installed Quake 3 Demo and it was working fine, except for the fact that its frame rates very low due to absence of H/W acceleration. Same was the problem with Chromium and Tux Racer.

After I installed the NVIDIA drivers, chromium and Tux Racer are running perfectly with acceptable frame rates. But Quake 3 stopped working. It now gives the following messages.

Q3 1.1 linux -i386 Dec 4 1999

try running quake3 from its root directory, and see if that fixes the problem. if not, uncompress the paks.

I believe he's already running it as root perhaps? It could be also that he just installed it into his root folder. A little bit more information would help.

How did you install the demo? So the game worked before you installed/upgraded your video card drivers. That's strange.

Quake has always worked for me after I've upgraded my video card drivers several times already (due to new releases and new kernel upgrades).

Perhaps you should just go ahead and reinstall the demo again. That might give us some more clues...

Sounds like you need to chmod the baseq to 0777.
