Quake 2 startup problems

I am having a problem starting quake 2. It loads, i get the intro and the ability to go through the menus but as soon as I try to start a game it freezes and exits.
At the CLI it says "Segmantation fault : (SDL parachute deployed)

I own the retail CD and I copied all the files to their places.
Does anyone have any suggestions to get this game to work?

Thanks

A properly set up Wine will have a fake Win drive and will install Starcraft on the c:/Program Files/ directory of it.

NWN can be installed natively. Use ravage's installers:

http://icculus.org/~ravage/

You need to have a running wine to use the installers.
