Programming Game(s), Refresh my memory :)

Quite awhile ago, We are talking 20+ years ago I had a game that I ran on my Apple. The way I remember it was there was your tank and the enemies tank. You wrote a bit of code for each part of your tank.

The turret might have 1 function, while the radar had another function..etc.

You wrote the code for your tank and then set it free and it used your program. When you set it free, it would run your program and fight against the enemy tanks.

I guess I have a couple of questions, is there any good programming games like this out there today? For linux of course. If I recall I was using some sort of Pascal back then.

Just a few days ago I was browsing around somewhere, it may of been on the Gentoo pages and I stumbled across a programming game and I swear that I bookmarked it, but now I cant find it again to save my life.

Now that I have my own teenage kids, I want them to learn there is more about computers then gaming. They dont get windows on their computers but rather whatever distro I was in the mood for. I have just figured if they have to do something on the computer and do it the hard way it might teach them something and they wont be like every other windows user out there.

I think the game your talking about is scorched earth.

You can find it on this page: http://www.classicdosgames.com/genre/simulation.html

Here is the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scorche...(computer_game)

I'm not sure, I'll keep looking for something like the description.

I think I found it, its called PCRobots.

You can see the description on this page: http://www.dmoz.org/Games/Video_Game...tics/desc.html

If you give me the distro you have we could probably find it as an .rpm or .deb.
