I just tested it on Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit. It works perfectly. This is from my desktop, the same computer that I used to compile Alien Arena. I had a spare hard drive lying around so I installed Ubuntu on it. Maybe the way openal is packaged for fedora is not satisfying Alien Arena. Should I compile it, or at least try to?

I finally decided to dispense with all the chaos of OpenAl and Alien Arena and switched back to old 7.45 release. Since Fedora 15 is coming out soon, I will try 7.51 on there and see if it is successful. I have a feeling that the problem is with something I installed that somehow contradicts openal since the game runs smoothly on my laptop (I thought I tested it before, but I didn't). With a clean install, my installed packages will be erased and I'll start from a clean slate. Thanks for all your help.

I am concluding that it is my pathetic Intel graphics that are causing this problem. Even with a new Fedora 15 install, the problem persists. Thanks for all your help.

I have concluded it was my Intel HD graphics, which have been giving me hell ever since I got into gaming with Linux. I went out an bought myself a nVidia G210 and now, Alien Arena works flawlessly.
