Hi,
I'm using Ubuntu Hardy on my desktop. Recently I bought one Eee PC 900/XP (since I could not get the Linux Xandro version), but then installed the Ubuntu eee 8.04.1 on it, so that I feel comfortable on both the machines (I really hate Windows btw).
On my desktop I play the game Gweled almost everyday, therefore wanted to install the same on my Eee PC. But somehow it doesn't run at all. When I click the game icon, the game interface pops up for five seconds and then disappears.
The first thing you should do when diagnosing a problem is to try running the program from a console. Usually you'll get an error message or some other useful feedback that way.

Do you mean the "Terminal"? I've tried to run writing gweled from the terminal, but this results in the same, i.e. the game interface appears for a few seconds and disappears, and nothing else happens or shows.
Terminal, console, they both pretty much refer to the same thing: the cli shell.*
If you're not getting any output there, then I'm not sure what you can do. Perhaps there's just something about it that doesn't like your hardware. The only other thing I know to suggest is to download the source code and try compiling it manually.
*Yes, I know there's a difference, but it's not really worth getting into here, is it?
Thanks to all of you. David's comment "it doesn't like something about my hardware" gave me the clue to search for changes I made to my Eee PC. And I remembered that I put the sound "off" in BIOS, since most of the time I don't need sound. I primarily work with texts.
When I put it to "on" again - gweled is working just fine!!
THANKS once again.
