Playing multiple sounds when quake3 is running

Hi,

I have been trying to play multiple sounds when quake3 is running. Like I want to listen to music when playing quake but quake3 just doesnt start its sound when some other sound is being played in background. As far as I could make out, it is because quake uses oss drivers and hence tries to acquire /dev/dsp but finds it busy and hence doesnt initialize its own sound. Is there any way to specify quake which driver it should use to play sound? I think for arts, I have heard "artsdsp -m quake3.x86" works. But, I dont have arts. In fact, I also tried "esddsp -m quake3.x86" but it just doesnt work. There is also some quake command as "snddevice /dev/dsp" in quake3 itself to specify the sound device, but i dont know how its going to help and how to tweak that option to point to any driver i want.

I have one more question. I have been trying to use q3sdc ( quake 3 server demo center) for linux. Its a tool which allows one to record demos from all povs and also makes the demo compressed. Hence, its really cool for recording and playing demos. But, it works only for windows. Those guys have specified a linux version as well. But it just doesnt work for me. Does anyone have any suggestions how to get it to work? This is the official site http://skuller-vidnoe.narod.ru/ .

Any help will be highly appreciated....

Thanks

Switch to icculus, the open source remake of the quake engine. It has alsa support, and should help with your sound problems.
