PlaneShift Freezes at "Loading World" section immediately after login

when i start up planeshift, i log in, choose my character, and wait for it to load up the world, this effectively crashes my computer, i can't close planeshift at this point so i have to hit the reset button, i'm using debian etch 2.6.18-5-686 in KDE, 2.4GHz CPU 128MB GPU 512MB RAM, well within the minimum system requirements, can anyone help?
