Cedega = wine + direct3d-support-thingie (said shortly, as far as I know)

so actually Cedega and wine are quite the same app, except that Cedega is kind of a boosted wine, where there has been added some nice "better" 3d-graphics and other support, especially with Windows games in mind, so it would more surely run them.

Wine is used to run Windows programs on Unix-like os'es (like Linux), Cedega is used to run Windows _games_. You may try, but probably you won't get any more speed. My experience is, though, that one game that I run with Wine did run very much more smoothly (even faster?) than with Windows, but I don't think it would have been any different from using Cedega for that.

You pay for Cedega because it's got some non-free things in it (so I've understood) and because you get help. The free version of Cedega doesn't include helping you out of problems etc...you can read of it from their website.

Is there difference on performance side, when running cedega on kde or gnome and if your kernel is 2.4 or 2.6?
