No sound in Quake3 (ALSA, emu101k)

Hey. just got my sound working (xmms atleast) but when I bott up quake it is silent (yes, I checked the volume in q3 controls!) Anyone offer some suggestions as to what is wrong?

disable all soundserver

artsd, esd...

if this doesn't work check the teamspeak tutorial at linux-gamers.net

It is most likely your permissions on the sound devices.
chmod 666 /dev/dsp*

thnx mint. that fixed aloot for me :P Now i can play quake again :P so the only thing left for me is to fix my resolution and my mouse scroll.
