Neverwinter Nights Linux installation

Okay, my last resort after two days of Googling and reinstalling... it's driving me nuts!!!

I recently obtained Neverwinter Nights, and want to install it with this scipt. Initially I got errors about libc.so.6 not being found, but that got solved after installing wine (from linuxpackage.org). But still it doesn't wanna roll, I still get the following

Code:

bash-3.00$ nwn_129_final.run
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing Neverwinter Nights 1.29 for Linux...............................................................................
Mounted device /dev/hdc

Extracting Install Disc 1

Extraction failed!

 Unable to find file 'chitin.key'
Unable to find file 'data'
Unable to find file 'dmvault'
Unable to find file 'docs'
Unable to find file 'localvault'
Unable to find file 'modules'
Unable to find file 'servervault'
Unable to find file 'texturepacks'

Unmounting device /dev/hdc
bash-3.00$

After which I'm asked to put in CD2. Then extraction seems to be fine, as well as installing from CD3. But when I want to run 'nwn' it seg faults and a message about SDL Parachute... There are several threads and tips to prevent that, but they didn't help. (the nwn start script requires it to be executed from within it's directory, but also then it crashes)

I have tried installing as root as well as user, no difference.

If anyone has a clue what's missing PLEASE let me know cause I'm getting pretty p*ssed off that I can't figure it out! Even more so because I can't get my gamepad to work, but I'll save that for another thread ;)

Cheers, Leon.

PS: I have attempted to install nwn by downloading the resourse files, but don't even get me started about that... I registered at Fileshack, but everytime the download reaches 500-700 MB (from 1.13GB) it stops. I use firefox without download manager and disabled firewall, but alas. Then I tried to get it through Fileplanet, who try to rip you off even more with a devious registration procedure.... ok, I'll stop my raving......

Thanks Finlay,

hadn't seen the first link. Will have a look if there's some new hints in that one!

Cheers, Leon.

Haven't tried it yet, but this might solve my problem.

Run the installer from a command line as root, inserting the CDs when prompted for them. I recommend you install using the default path, and ALL OF THE TEXTURES. Movies will not play in the Linux client, so you don't need them. If the installer doesn't recognize the CDs, then you don't have Joliet enabled in your kernel. If you get errors with Wine, you can try running the command export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 before you run the installer.

Too bad, passing LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 (or 2.4.29, since that's what I had when I installed Slack initially) didn't make a difference. I now reverted to copying the resource files that could not be extracted from cd1 from a previous install, and all is well.

It's still annoying that I couldn't manage to do a fresh install using the install cd's and the script. If anyone figures out why those files could not be extracted from cd1 please post back.

Cheers, Leon.

IIRC I just followed the nwn instructions as provided by bioware and it went in fine. I had some grief with game speed but that was a GL problem solved via their forum......well worth joining the community just for that linux forum.
All that on slack with a 2.4.something kernel

Try getting the resource files from jeux instead...ftp://jeuxlinux.com/bioware/Neverwin...rces129.tar.gz
