I have loaded and reloaded Gnome Nethack. The next-to-last time I loaded it, it would hang on exit. This last time, it worked fine for a while, then after a few weeks started to hang on exit. I can either go into System -> Administration -> System Monitor and kill the process, or just start another game - after which it still takes about a minute or two before the old screen is wiped.

This is about the 6th time I've installed Nethack on this machine -- the first few ran fine. Most reinstalls were due to various stupid things I did causing the Windows partition to require reinstallation.

System info: HP Pavilion a1020n running Ubuntu 8.04 under WUBI (on Windows partition). Let me know if you need more info.

I guess you have .nethack directory at your home. Try to backup it, remove the original one and check if the game exists
correctly now.

I don't see it in my Home directory... unless it's a hidden file and I haven't unhidden those...

I don't get why it installed and ran perfectly the first few times, then not, and now installed and ran well for a few weeks and then changed to the former bad behavior...

Maybe your .nethackrc got corrupted. Anyway try playing from console and check if it hangs there.
