Question Minimizing to desktop?

I can't find a way to minimize a fullscreen game to the desktop.
I tried Neverwinter Nights and America's Army, both won't to anything when pressing the default Gnome minimize/switch app buttons: Alt+Tab, Alt+F5. Is there a special key combo for the X server to minimize out of fullscreen?

Thanx for any help

I have no ideas
But if you really need a shell, you can try "Ctrl+Alt+F1" (Ctrl+Alt+F7 to go back to graphical mode)
