Mattel Hyperscan game console is Linux friendly!

Has anyone here ever used one of these consoles? It's a neat little thing, plays its games only okay, but the hardware is top notch.

It uses the SunPlus Mobile SPG290, a 32-bit processor that the company says is Linux compatible, but there are no distros for it to use. More information on it is here:

http://www.geocities.com/hyperscanso...developer.html

That's about the console, more on the processor is here:

http://www.sunplusmm.com/products/game/g290.asp

The thing about this console is that there is no copy protection on the disks and no kind of hardware lockout on the inside. This makes it very easily altered, and games can be made for it. There are only five games for it right now, and they're all one kind, all fighting.

I want to make games for it but I can't figure out what language this thing uses, and there is at present no distro of any kind for this kind of processor.

Does anyone here have any info for this kind of machine? Mattel is not helping, and I'm waiting for SunPlus to get back to me about a devkit for the processor.

Any suggestions?

Nathan

I would just email them directly. I can't imagine that they are too busy selling these things :P

Yes, the whole group of us has been waiting on responses. Hopefully this thing will get some recognition and people will get interested enough to help with coding and whatever issues come up.

It would be really neat to have a Linux console that uses the TV normally as a screen.

I have gotten a response from SunPlus, they say they forwarded my message and I will be contacted shortly. Hopefully they already have something I can use for an OS. I asked about a devkit for the processor, specifically.
