Maintain aspect ratio with open source radeon drivers possible? If so how?

Running a Radeon 9700 pro in slackware 13.0. Is it possible to maintain aspect ratio for non 16:9 resolutions? My monitor is a samsung 21" tv @ 1360x768 native resolution. I don't wan't my games to stretch when run @ their 640X480 or 1024x768 resolution. I'm using the DVI output BTW (DVI to hdmi cable).

How do I scale and maintain aspect ratio? Is there some kinda gui utility that can make tweaking easier for the open source radeon driver?

Not sure I follow.. So you want a game to run at 1024x768, but you don't want them to actually run at 1024x768? :-) Why not just configure the game to run at a 16:9 resolution?

How do I tell the open source radeon driver to scale to maintain a 4:3 aspect ratio on my 16:9 monitor.

Like if I run starcraft via wine or quake 2 @ 1024X768 resolution I always gotta find the remote control for the tv and set it manually to 4:3 size or else the picture is stretched and distorted. How can I tell the driver to scale them instead of the tv?

I'm just curious if this is possible with the open source drivers since the nvidia closed source drivers have an option (nvidia-settings) to make the gpu scale to maintain correct aspect ratio. It's much better this way since the tv doesn't do any scaling-processing which in turn will cause some video latency. Alot of talk in home theater forums about which tv has the least latency and/or which scalers do the best processing with the least amount of lag (scalers are over 1k$ for anything decent!!!)
