We're slowly moving from LCD displays to LED displays. So getting an LED will be more future-proof.
LED offers better contrast ratio because it doesn't have a backlight. So blacks look much blacker on an LED screen.
LED also uses less electricity, so it's more cost efficient.
Apart from that, I don't think there's any major difference in visuals between the two. For gaming, screen size will be important.
Most LED TVs have an LCD display with an LED backlight. But a proper LED TV has no backlight - it doesn't need one.
