LAN party help
 

My friend is hosting a LAN party (warcraft, cs 1.5/1.6, so on) what suks is that they are all Windows(xp) rigs. So my question is is it possible to connect to their lan with my RedHat9, and play the games on lan with them? I've studied:study: the "How To, RHLinux9" book but still i dont (FULLY) understand if i can do this or not. Keep in mind im not a linux guru. i kinda left the newb area.
NOTE: If possible send me a link to a step by step on how to link up LAN with windows and Linux. Thanx!

I'm afraid I dont know too much about it, but I can tell you that hooking up to thier LAN is definatly possible, and if you can get warcraft 3 to run under linux, then I cant see why it wouldnt work.

It can be done, but to give you a step by step config is asking for a bit much.

How are you going to play the games? Do you have the games installed and already working under linux?

MOST of the games are going to be pre-installed but like a couple: Halo, CS 1.6 (this ones a maybe, i haven't tried the famouse wine installation help, i took a gander but i became a complex maze to me when i actually tried doing it.) Oh and thanx, u gusy are the best!

Using WineX, I've successfully played Jedi Knight 2, Tribes, and CS on a LAN and WAN connected to Windows pc's. I have a Geforce ti 4200 and get great fps. If you can, spend the 15 dollars for the minimum Winex subscription, and use Winex. It's easy to get going and works well.

I think this is going to be much easier then you think. I'd imagine that they'll be setting up the lan with a bunch of routers and assigning IP address's via DHCP. Either way you can simply run:

neat

highlight 'eth0' and click 'edit'. You'll probably just have to choose 'Automatically obtain ip address setting with dhcp' Save the changes and restart the network service:

/etc/init.d/network restart

Then try and ping either the router or another ip address on the lan. Peace of cake.
