kernel tweaking

Has anyone tested benchmarked the low latency and similar patches to see their effects on 3D/FPS games?
Any info or links to would be great.

Thanks.

not really benched but eh...

the gentoo gaming sources (2.4.20) is slower than the new 2.6 kernels. So IMHO you should get a patched 2.6.

Oh, low latency will never have a negative impact on your performance... go for it. I don't think it will have a significant increase either. Oh yeah, don't use Gentoo (my debian is currently faster!!)

Cheers.
Looks like I might have to do some benchmarking if I get the chance...
Interesting that your debian is quicker than gentoo. Wonder what the explanation is for that.

shadowhunter 02-07-2004 05:36 AM

yeah, i really don't get it...

In debian my average fps is about a 2 fps higher...
I guess I didn't compile support for this or that in the kernel.
Anyway, start benching and let me know something.

How can I tell My latency? I am thinking about using a 2.6 kernel, but I heard that they don't have 3D support, is there a patch for that?

LavaDevil94 02-09-2004 07:19 PM

use 3dmark 2000. it may have to be run under wine, but its a good benchmark nonetheless.

shadowhunter 02-10-2004 10:45 AM

uh, 2.6 does support 3d ;).

only my nvidia drivers don't seem to recognize the kernel :(.
It is supported!

Geert.
