Jedi Outcast

I can't seem to get Jedi Outcast (Jedi Knight 2) to work under Suse 8.2. I've already tried searching all the fourms, and couln't find anything that would fix my problem. I get an "unhandled exception" error when either saving or entering the first save point.
I did a chmod -R 777 LucasArts and still nothing. I also tried a chmod -R ug+r, still nothing. I can play multi-player for hours and hours, even my settings on both single player and multi player are saved, its just when the game saves it crashes

I'm running WineX 3.1, i have 1gb DDR RAM, Geforce 440 64mb, dual MP 2000 processors.

I installed Redhat and Mandrake, and the game works on those, but the game freezes. I love Suse, and the game actually runs perfectly under suse (no sound or graphic problems), it just crashes when saved.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to do? Do you think the filesystem should be changed (ie from suse default filesystem to ext2 or ext3)?

Oh PS: All my other Windows games run perfectly under WineX. I don't have these problems with them, just Jedi Knight 2

I fixed the problem. I downloaded the latest CVS of wineX, and JediOutcast runs and saves perfectly. However, the latest CVS doesn't run so great on all my games, so I'm keeping WineX 3.1, and only running JK2 off of the CVS build

There's another solution too. If you use the map cheat, you can get auto-saved levels to work. It's just when the manual save are tried or the checkpoints are reached it crashes WineX.

I can't find a solution for that either. I'm not good an manual set-up of the CVS wine version either.

I had no problems like this in Mandrake 8.2 (just loads of OTHER problems).

Yeah I know. Ok.. Follow these instruction closely JaseP....

1) uninstall wine but keep WineX
2) Download the latest CVS
$ cvs -dserver:anonymous@cvs.winex.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/winex login
Hit Enter when prompted for a password
$ cvs -z3 -dserver:anonymous@cvs.winex.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/winex co wine

3)Go to the CVS wine directory $ cd wine
4)run this command $tools/wineinstall as root
When it asks you where to put the C drive, type $ ~/.wine/fake_windows
5)type the same command again as your regualr user
When it asks you where to put the C drive, type $ ~/.wine/fake_windows
6) run wine as your user
8) If you see an error message like this

could not stat /home/user/.wine/%HOME%/.transgaming/c_drive (No such file or directory), ignoring drive C:
Could not stat /home/user/.wine/%HOME% (No such file or directory), ignoring drive D:
Invalid path 'c:\windows' for windows directory: does not exist
Perhaps you have not properly edited or created your Wine configuration file.
This is (supposed to be) '/home/user/.wine/config'

replace the line in the config file under .wine that says "Path" = "%HOME%/.transgaming/c_drive/"
with "Path" = fake_windows

And all the other variables of Path that have %Home%, replace them with the actual directory link to where your home is

when you run wine you should get output like this

fixme:cdrom:CDROM_GetIdeInterface CD-ROM device with major ID 11 not supported
Could not stat /home/jason/.wine/%HOME% (No such file or directory), ignoring drive Y:
WineX CVS

Usage: wine [options] [--] program_name [arguments]
The -- has to be used if you specify arguments (of the program)

Options:
--debugmsg name Turn debugging-messages on or off
--dll name Enable or disable built-in DLLs
--dosver x.xx DOS version to imitate (e.g. 6.22)
Only valid with --winver win31
--help,-h Show this help message
--managed Allow the window manager to manage created windows
--version,-v Display the Wine version
--winver Version to imitate (win95,win98,winme,nt351,nt40,win2k,winxp,win20,win30,win31)
--dt Defer trace until Alt+F12
--use-dos-cwd Used to set the DOS current working directory for the process (needs a path)
--cmdline Specifies the application's command line

that means it has worked. Just mount the Jedi Outcast CD, and re-install it. And ejoy. If you are having problems, email me directly at: jmbreault@hotpop.com, or AIM linuxbotX2 and I'll be glad to help you get that CVS running

Oh PS, under the CD device there is a ; before "Device"

looks like this:

;"Device" = /media/cdrom

make it look like this

"Device"=/media/cdrom

And your CD rom will work
