Installing flight sim
I downloaded this flight sim last night, from flightgear.org and I can't get it set up. So now, I have a large file just sitting on my desktop. I am still new to linux so I don't really know what to do now. I used rpm -Uhv on it but that's all I could do. I've never downloaded a game onto my computer before and the instructions on the site weren't too helpful so what do I do now? Oh, and by the way I'm using Fedora Core 2

If you never installed flight gear before, it would be:
rpm -ivh filename.package_processor_type.rpm
not
rpm -Uvh filename.package_processor_type.rpm
I.E.:
rpm -ivh flightgear-0.9.4-1grk.i386.rpm
Make sure you had downloaded the RPM made for FC2, and not the debian packages.
Also, there is another package called simgear. Check if you need it.

Okay, I've downloaded it, so now what? I can't acces the file, and since it's a rpm file should I leave unplugged, and why didn't the program have any instructions? I don't have a clue where to go, and when all is said and done, how do I get the flight sim to be listed in the game menu?

Run a konsole...
do a cd to the directory where the download is loacated.
type a command according to the following syntax:
rpm -ivh flightgear-0.9.4-1grk.i386.rpm
To launch the program, look for its executable in your /usr/local/ partition/directory.
Type the name of the executable from within that directory
If that works, then we can discuss making sure that the program is on your path...

I've installed the program and I can see it listed in the Desktop, so what do I do now, and how do I get it listed in the main menu?

Are you using KDE or Gnome???
You need to edit the menu to put it on there.
You can create an icon for it as well.
