I want my Controller to output text with button press

I have a controller and I really would love to use it in games that don't support controllers by having the A button output text instead. All I'm asking for is the name or a link to an application that does this.

I have a program called ControlMK which is a windows application that does this. Under wine only 1 axis of the left joystick are accessible.

Assuming a supported gamepad/joystick, how about "joyd"?
http://www.h.shuttle.de/mitch/joyd.en.html
Executes commands from joystick actions - to send <text> to stdout, just bind an action to the command "echo <text>".
Project Page.
Linux Magazin article.

man joyd
Did you read that "linux magazin" article?
(If you don't read German, it translates quite well.)

You have to create the configuration file - there are sample configuration files included in the package.

I exited the last post before I'd finished writing it... oops.

joyd looks for a configuration file (joydrc) in the directory joyd is invoked from.

Sample configuration files are supplied in "examples" in the source tarball, and in /usr/doc/packages/joyd from the rpm. To use another one, or one in a different location, it must be specified (full path) on the commandline. (So invoke joyd from one of these places and watch the screen as you fiddle with the joystick.)

I've just had a look in the tarball, and they are all self-explanatory.

You never know until you look.

Notes for the future: Linux Magazine (in it's various languages) never reviews software without providing an easy to follow howto. Also, hackers won't take the trouble of pointing you to any web page unless they think it is important. After all, it was important enough for me to go read it and paste the URL to the forum.

Tell me how you got on.

They're not the kind of thing you need a gui for - I mean, you just edit the config file.
