I use my machine (XP) for work, but my main use is for gaming. I would like to switch to Ubuntu due to the fact that open source is awesome. I don't however want to risk losing my catolouge of games. Suggestions? PS I am trying to duel boot but i am having trouble making the partition (XP doesnt reconise the extra partions, althogh I think I will try making them when I do my test run off of the disk)
My computer has been having trouble resizing the partitions off the ubuntu disk, and the manager in XP doesnt even let me edit the partitions. suggestions?
You definately want to be dual booting until you know if Linux game support is all you need. Some people seem fine with it and others not. I am not a gamer so that has never mattered to me.

Your explanation about problems with "XP not reconising extra partions" is vague. You will want to explain that more.
If you like the Unreal games then linux is no problem. Teamspeak also has a linux client.
I don't know why xp would need to recognise partitions though, you should be able to partion with ubuntu cd and install grub or lilo and that will be it. You dont need to do anything to xp as far as I know.

I do a defrag and then turn off the swap file before I resize XP.
You could try Parted Magic or Gparted.
EDIT:Actually to be correct I first turn off the swap file then I do the defrag.

Same goes for Quake, or any other id software game.
Some other commercial games get ported to Linux, and there are plenty of Free Software games. If you like FPS, Turn based strategy, and RPG games Linux is a good gaming platform. There is a lack of decent RTS games though, the Free Software community is trying.
