Probably the easiest and quickest way to get Windows games running in Linux would be by using a piece of software called Cedega. Find out more at Transgaming.com. The only downside is that Cedega is a monthly subscription. Well worth it though in my opinion.

Your other option would be to install Wine. I don't use Wine though.

There are several games that have native Linux support such as UT2004, Quake3, Doom3, Quake4, etc. Check out the Linux Games List for more general info on games that have native Linux installer programs, etc.

Is there anyway to use a program like those without paying? I didn't see a place to pay for wine, but the other one which everyone says is good, it wanted me to subscribe...

If you can find something that works as well as Cedega, let me know! I want it and don't mind the subscription fee, but I don't have a credit card and I think it's outright disgusting that everyone EXPECTS you to have one.

I know. I throw up every night because of it. NOT!

Have a look here. Before you whinge do some research. You don't need a credit card, you need a Visa or a Mastercard and I think both come in the debit flavour these days.

LoL, what?

Ya I forgot about Cedega CVS. It works fine IF you can get it up and running.

I would suspect companies "expect" you to have a credit card because it's the only logical way of transfering money through the internet. If you aren't old enough for one then I guess you're SOL.

Oh ya, Wine doesn't cost money. It's a free download. Give'r a go.

Thank you very much for the link. I appologize if I've irritated anyone with my haste in my previous post.

I still think it's a crock that you need a CC for nearly everything these days....

Yeah, but do you have a better suggestion for transferring money online? Paypal isn't a rock-solid option, last time I was a frequent user they didn't allow certain countries in and froze your account as soon as you got a reasonable amount of cash in there while they "investigated". At this stage, the easiest and more importantly, most secure and reliable way to do this is via credit card or the debit cards from Visa and Mastercard. If you can invent a new way that is both secure, reliable and cheap then go for it. One day you can wave at me from your million dollar beach house while I walk my dog

Dude, that's way cool Thanks!!!!

About the CC thing, just because you find my view incorrect is no reason to be sarcastic. I beleive this thread was about an installation issue anyway.

I'm sarcastic all the time, don't take it personally. That last post however wasn't mean to be taken in a negative way. There isn't a viable alternative, if there was it would get a lot of use. The internet is largely populated by kids who aren't old enough to have a credit card but have part-time jobs and can afford to spend a little money but they don't get a say in most things. While that doesn't necessarily apply to you, it's just confirmation that the best solution currently available is in place.
