Heretic II running native in Fedora 9

I've poked around and seen several posts on the 'net asking for help installing Heretic II on Linux. But my problem is a little past that.

I've got my Heretic II CD for Linux installed. At the end of the install, the graphical installer asked if I wanted to play, but warned me not to run as root, (I installed as root so I wouldn't run into problems). So I quit in order to run again as a regular user.

All the instructions on the game CD say to run the game at the command line by typing " heretic2 ". But it doesn't get any more specific than that. This leads me to believe that the game executable is in the path. But the game doesn't run - bash says "command not found".

I've done a search and can't find an executable or script to run the game. Anybody know what my problem is?

There is something wrong with the install instructions, at least under
Linux (Linux Mint 10).

First, the printed manual mentions "the full install option" which
does NOT exist when running "setup.sh"

Did install it following prompts, BUT.....

From the READ.ME file:

--------------------
(3) PLAYING THE GAME
--------------------

Run 'heretic2' to start the game.

The first time you run Heretic II it will create a .loki/heretic2
directory in your home directory. Saved games and preferences will
be stored here.

This did NOT work. That's because you provide no path or location for
the executable.

Doing a search of the entire Linux file system does not find an
*executable* "heretic2" it only finds the folder.

Under Linux a path must be provided AND you must switch to the actual
file location (folder).

Found the executable buried on the CD.

Copied it to the \usr\local\games\heretic2 folder (created by installer).

Ran it. It did create .loki/heretic2 in my home folder as stated in READ.ME, but that's all.

Cannot run the game using executable heretic2, all that happens is a box pops open and closes.

How do I run "Heretic II" under Linux Mint?
