Hope anyone could help me on this...
I cannot load it anymore....
What should I do guys???
anyway the game is great...
I wish I could say that I understand the exact problem, but I'm not super-savvy at programming. What it seems like is that SDL caused the problem. If you have not restarted X11 (or just reboot the computer to make it easy), I would suggest that first. After that, I would recommend that you find updated graphics drivers for your card as that almost never hurts.
After that, I might recommend updating SDL.
Hopefully, someone with more knowledge will be able to give you more, but that's all I know for the moment.
It seems like SDL fails to initialize the visual for some reason. I'd start checking if the 3d video driver is still working as it should. Some things to check are these:
glxgears, does it work?
can you try some other 3d video game?
please, provide the output for this command: glxinfo | head
I assume that you haven't updated or changed sdl nor any other of the involved libraries since the last time you compile ufo-ai, if not, recompile it. You can as well try to revert to a previous svn snapshot. Svn by definition can break at any random time, after all, it's live code, and that's why releases do exist.
Hi,
after type glxinfo | head; the output is like this:-
Quote:
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.2
server glx extensions:
GLX_ARB_multisample, GLX_EXT_import_context, GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap,
GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_MESA_copy_sub_buffer,
GLX_OML_swap_method, GLX_SGI_make_current_read, GLX_SGI_swap_control,
GLX_SGIS_multisample, GLX_SGIX_fbconfig, GLX_SGIX_visual_select_group
other 3d game that I could play is astromenace...
but yo frankie from blender just crashed after I click start button...
how do I know my glxgears work or not?
I always recompile the game after svn update....but it just update that the game would compile...
Do I have to do fresh install...
and other thing is that....during the first trial I made to install the game...
during configuration....it came out to be error because I do not have xvid and theora development headers...
then I installed it through synaptic package manager...the xvid and theora files that end with ".dev or -dev" as I remember...
but during configuration of the game for update it came out some Warning that could not find any xvid development headers...
but I still could recompile the update...
I did check the xvid.dev in the synaptic....Yes the libraries already installed....
am my system just go haywire???
The direct rendering seems to be on, so that's not the problem.
To test glxgears just write "glxgears" into an xterm and press enter.
You don't need a fresh install for anything, I don't know what the problem is though. You said you've asked on the ufo-ai forum, can you please direct us into the relevant thread with a link? There might be something helpful in it.
If the application has compiled it *should* work ok. I think that this can happen if SDL, for some reason, fails to detect the available video modes and the current one is not compatible. So, a solution could be to find the ufo-ai config file and adjusting those values manually (or maybe moving the file somewhere else or erasing it so a new config is created from scratch). The will probably live somewhere under a directory called ~/.ufoai, ~/.ufo-ai or similar (sorry, I haven't it installed to test). Usually the config file is a plain text file that can be edited with a regular text editor. Try to locate the settings about resolution, colordepth and such things and play with the values a bit, or just move the file somewhere else and try to run the game again.
I also did install some old game through wine...dungeon siege, dungean siege legends of aranna...the game runs fine with some blurry and shadowy but then during in game crashed....
I just want to ask is it normal for a fullscreen game on linux there is some black area screen side by side of the interface...as below.... http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink
this pic was taken from ufoai 2.2.1...is this normal...can u see the black area screen side next to the interface....
I see, there's nothing useful on that thread unfortunately. It was worth to check, just in case.

Wine can work ok or not depending on the concrete game you try, and also in the version of wine that you use. You can try searching the wine database for these games, maybe someone else had the same problem and has managed to fix it or work around it. And if not, at least you will know you are not the only one.
You can also open new bugs there. It's hard to get them fixed if the wine developers do not know about them This is the site of the wine application database:

I guess it depends on the game and in the screen resolution you use. Your screen seems to be of a wide format. "Normal" screens have an x/y ratio of 4/3, wide screens have a proportion of 16/9, hence they are wider than the regular formats. I guess that ufo-ai is not prepared to use a wide format and it just fill the gaps with a black background. Maybe it can be configured to take approach of the wide resolution, I really have no idea.
It seems that for some reason it doesn't restore the resolution after closing the game. This might be something specific to intel video cards. I suggest you to open a new thread just for this problem. I don't have intel video cards to test so I can't help with this one. And it will be very difficult for you to get help for such specific problem here. Open another thread on the desktop forum, I guess it's the best place for this concrete one

if there is some special driver for mobile intel gma 4500mhd...
could u provide me the link...
what type of driver do jaunty packages provide for this intel graphic card???
Is it the best choice I had to put on jaunty for this card...??
Thanks...
As far as I know, the driver you use is the correct one, there's no better one. However as I said I know very little about intel cards. There might be some way to improve the performance or tune it a bit. I also suggest to open another thread for this one so you can get better help from people that know more than me about this.
