Has anyone been successful in running the latest WineX on 2.6.x Kernel distros?
I'm still using Red Hat 9 and before I upgrade to a distro with 2.6.x Kernel I would like to hear from people running games on one.
I read on latest WineX release notes that Transgaming do not recommend 2.6.x Kernel distros because of stability issues. I also wonder if native Linux games like Quake, Unreal, or Neverwinter Nights run well on such distros. Anyone can comment on this? |
Just installed Max Payne 2 on Mandrake 10 (2.6.5 kernel). Install was pretty easy. This game is rated 4/5 for compatability at Transgaming - one irritation I found was the sound is choppy if you want to view the 'previously on Max Payne' story before the game starts otherwise it seems fine (didn't play for too long - about 30 mins maybe). I used Point to Play 1.1.2 with Winex 3.2.2-1

map changes are slow in windows on ut2004 so i doubt its a linux only problem- look for a ut2004 tweaking guide and it should give you loading speed improvement suggestions

I use Mandrake 9.1 with the 2.6.6. kernel, and WineX and friends work fine for me. Except: sometimes I get an error when changing resolutions that the X server caught signal 11 and aborted, after which Im dropped to a console from where I start X again. Its probably the stability issue in question, but theyre working on fixing it.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I'll be trying Cedega on Suse 9.1 soon!
