half-life could not validate cd

hi

I've just installed half-life original and everything went smoothly. I then started the game, and when I select to start game in the menu I get a message from half-life saying insert CD, then a messagesaying ' could not validate half-life'. I have one optical drive, a DVD/CDRW drive.

I looked in the cedega config and there was no cdrom listed so I added one and re-installed the game.... same thing, except when you choose the installation directory and select the drive to install to, there are now 4 CD drives listed (I didnt check the first time round) . I cant find a way to remove the other three.

Also Im instaling the game to an actual FAT directory, will this matter?

any suggestions?

thanks
