Graphix Card or Open GL not working Take a look
 
Comp Info: 1.9Ghz Pentium 4
GeForce3 Ti 500
Slackware Linux 9.1


I have had problems running some games that require "OpenGL", and I get this crappy error, Xlib: extention "GLX" missing on display. Now Installed the AI32 Graphix Driver from the nvidia web site ( not sure if that is the right one I just picked one =p ), and all goes well, now where I get confused is "Which XF86Config file do I need to alter?" There is one in the home dir, etc dir, so on so forth, once we get that out of the way, Ill post my XF86Config file, so you guys can take a look at it and tell me what needs to be done to get my Graphixcard working, the only reason why i think my graphix card it self isnt working is there is "supposed" to be a nvidia splash screen when you start X and I dont get that. PLEASE give me all the nessesary info to get my GFX card working I havnt played anything but Battle for Wesnoth in 2 weeks, Im dying over here!!!

Almost forgot, I have added

load "glx" to the XF86Config file in etc dir, read that somewhere on site, and i have tryed to get XF86Config to recognize the GFX card but to no Avail.

I changed the "nv" to "nvidia" but when I started X, it just turned to a black screen and hanged, I seem to remember reading about this problem somewhere, I would appriciate anyones help, thanks

uncomment the load "glx" didn't read the instructions how'd you miss editing the xf86config.

actually, there should be a fully working XF86Config file in /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/XF86Config.sample
so do these commands:
su
cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.old
cp /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/XF86Config.sample /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

Still gettin Black Screen
 
Ive made the XF86Config.sample the actualy XF86Config file but I still get the blank black screen when I try to startx. I looked this up on the nvidia forums, they said to lower the AGP crap in the Bios, so i lowered it from256mb to 64mb, and still same problem.... i juess im goin to re-post with the blank screen being the prob, so more peeps will read=p, not stoping anyone from anserwering on this thread, thanks

i think they meant the speed, not the ram. and please dont repost, it gets a little irritating when you see the same problem in a different title... anyway, try lowering the agp SPEED.

Dont see that option in Bios
 
Looked all in my Bios and I dont see any APG speen option.
