Games on Linux... when it will be available

without 3 hours install stuff?

When will it be easy with 1 ./configure, make, make install commands?

Is there a chance that in the next few years it will happen?
will they develop easy install with all included files like skype installation?

What do u think? Discuss.

discuss? is this an exam?

cedega runs a bunch of games just fine. I don't see much market for a genuine linux native programming base if an abstraction layer can do a good enough job. that said a move towards more use of application frameworks would probably be beneficial, so multiple operating systems run the same game code within a generically abstracted base.

and I thought it's a discussion board, where you can DISCUSS stuff.

How many years will it take to build something like Direct X for linux(&win) and all the gaming company will use that to run games?

Why we ALWAYS have to rely on something is not working as good as it should? Emulation sucks...too much resources for a bad performance.
What would be really nice is to have common APIs like OpenGL and only make a binary for starting the game (just like UT series, and ID games, for example). This said, the only "fault" is for developers to choose DirectX instead of OpenGL and those that, even though they made the game using OpenGL deny to make a binary (like Vivendy with SWAT 4 -which uses UT2k4 engine-).

I'm just tired of hearing "use cedega". I'm tired of having to tweak the config file for hours to get horrible performance.

I run plenty of games on linux, I'm more than happy. I know lots of people in the same boat too, perhaps the problem is with you?

cedga is NOT emulation, it is a compatability layer.. you think cedgea slows it all down? try running XP... I do not personally believe that cedega IS a short term fix, licensing for it might be due for change, but then somewhere down the line things do start costing money.

I don't like 3d games, so 2d is good enough. there lots of 2d games for linux, no need for hardware acceleration...

and I love sf.net and freshmeat.net, and happypenguin.org , so I'm happy with linux games

I haven't said Cedega slows down ALL performance...I have just said that the same game played on cedega and on XP, XP performs far better than cedega, something that's normal.
I agree when you said cedega is a compatibility layer, I meant so by saying emulation, my fault. The only thing against cedega I have to say is when cedega tema claims that certain game worls perfectly under cedega and it doesn't. I prefer them to say they have achieved a way to play the game, instead of saying it's gonna work flawlessly.

Not at all, there are plenty of Windows games out there that perform equally well under linux/Cedega. Mostly OpenGL games as I understand but still... I can't commend from a rock solid standpoint as the only game I use Cedega for is a DirectX game. I'm keen to have a go with their new SwiftShader though!

I have tested out 2 games with cedega: Counter Strike 1.6 and Guild Wars: both games run quite bad, specially Guild Wars to the point of being totally unplayable, even at lowest resolution/graphic set.
Maybe it's something wrong with my conf or my computer, but the fact is that I can't play them under Linux. But the point of the thread is that most Linux users are happy to be able to run window games with cedega, but I say Linux users should not be happy for that, they should push developers to make games natively playable under Linux.
