To my great surprise my favourite game Emilia Pinball does not start anymore after upgrading, same thing with Open Yahtzee and many others too. Is there any way to find out what is wrong?

Run it from the command line, and note any warnings and errors. This is normally what you want to do first, to see if anything is being outputted to STDOUT or STDERR. You could also do the following:
Code:
/path/to/game/game 1>out.log 2>err.log
This will write all standard output to out.log, and all error messages to err.log. Also, how did you exactly update your game?
I think the problem is more complex than this. You see, I recently tried to download (stupidly) updates that I only too late found out to be about 800 MB, so the whole thing jammed. I had to take this computer to a repair shop to fix the problem (install Ubuntu 11.10 anew), and eversince I think I have had problems, Firefox refuses to co-operate too, it gives me this:
Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.
So I'm in deep s--t and don't know how to get further on. One thing I think I know for sure is that my hard disk is not full but being practically a newbie I can't find a way out...
Sorry, corp769! Wasn't my intention to be rude, I only thought that because I did not do what you suggested, I could not say that your advice was helpful. Mea culpa...

And that's why I think that system should be sometimes disabled..... Oh well I guess
(And thanks for dropping my "helpful" percentage down to 90%.... Please stop abusing the system.)
