gamepad for linux

my son enjoys playing Super Tux very much, I would like to get him a gamepad along the lines of a super nes controller that would be compatible with Linux.

any tips in this area would be appreciated :)

thanks

I have the Logitech Dual Action... It's great. Best pc gamepad I have had. Similar to PS2, and SNES style button setup. I used it for playing ROMS.

Well, I have not used mine in about a year and a half. That was many versions ago for OpenSuSE, so I do not recall if I had a problems. I do believe all I did was install some package that was in the main repository, plug the controller in and set up the buttons for the game.

Check out the HCL:

The last guy says it works out of the box... and he mentions Xubuntu.

FWIW, I bought a Logitech Precision (usb) gamepad for $10. I use it to play NES roms on VectorLinux, with qjoypad handling the gamepad input. It was pretty easy to configure.
