I stumbled across this page. Looks steam machines are about a month away for those that pre-ordered back in June. Valve must be very busy right now.

There will be intense scrutiny on the launch of steam machines. I see steamos/steam machines as a long term play. Overall I think it'll be good for gaming on linux.

I will bet that there will be plenty of people out there bashing the steamos/steam machine release. But that's expected as there is so much at stake.

There's also a lot going on with graphics on linux. The AMD open source drivers are getting a lot of work. The Vulkan project is moving fast. AMD released new proprietary drivers. AMD released new GPUs.

We'll see if the "Steam machines crash and take Linux gaming with them" scenario comes to pass.

What are you thinking will happen? I can't think of how this would happen. Or just playing the devil's advocate? Even then what would be the scenario?

Yes, just playing devil's advocate.

Well there has been plenty of FUD going around about steamos/steammachines. The sheer number of games that have been ported to linux so far is a big positive and I don't see any way for that progress to go in reverse.

I brought a huge number(over 100) of games myself over the last two years and have about 50 more or so on my wishlist. And I'm sure that I am not that only Linux gamer who brought a lot of games since Valve released Steam for Linux.
