finding saved position files in xboard?

I've saved a bunch of chess puzzles in the $HOME/chess directory and altered /etc/profile to point xboard to this directory. This works fine for saving games and positions. However recalling these files is a pita.

When trying to load a position the file name prompt pops up.A menu of saved files would be much more convenient. Anyone know how to get this working? I've already tried creating a $HOME/chess/puzzles directory but that doesn't seem to be the answer.

Edit/Any recommendations for other chess boards? One with all or most of xboard's features but with a decent file menu? Tried eboard but didn't like the position editing. Must be able to run on fluxbox without 3D.

If you keep the name of the save file the same across games you will end up with a (say) "~/games.pgn". When loading a game just enter "games.pgn" and then you'll get a second popup in which you can choose which game to load. PGN files are just ASCII, so catting all PGN's into one should work (for me it does, but YMMV(VM) so do make backups). I don't care much for the interface so I use Xboard with the Arasan engine.

So the procedure is;
1) load the puzzles (only had a few so didn't try the cat)
2) save all puzzles as games.pgn
3) edit the descriptions in the text files to something useful

Well that works, thank you! Not exactly intuitive but I'm sure the author had a good reason for doing it this way (maybe?). Suspect it has something to do with the age of xboard.

Saves one step ;-p

Could well be. Then again I haven't looked for new interfaces since this one still works.
