Final Fantasy VII/VIII - Anyone Have It Working?
Simple question really, has anyone managed to get FFVII/VIII running under any distro with either wine/cedega?
I have heard of a few people managing to get to the start-up menus in FF7. But it all ends there. Obviously it requires midi playback and the strange movie codec too.. Can anyone point me in the right direction to a tutorial or installer. Please help me out, it's one of only a few things that im holding onto Windows for. Thanks in advance! Xel'naga666 |
I have gotten FF7 and FF8 to work... With a PSOne emulator, not Wine/Cedega, as I don't have the PC versions. Actually I bought FF7 after I found out that I could have an almost flawless PSOne emulation on my system (almost flawless, as there is no input plugin that supports vibration/force feedback for capable devices). If you go down this route, check out ePSXe and Pcsx, make sure you get all the relevant plugins too.

Sounds good but I already own a PS2 with a playable FF7+8 for it. I also own the PC versions and I want them installed under linux so that I can try out the Reunion patch and music mods.
This is why I need it running under some linux distro. Rather than emulation. |
Since I don't own the PC versions of the games, I can't say for sure, but I'd say it depends a lot on how were the games originally coded. Wine has made some amazing strides at Windows® interoperability and their Win32 implementation is getting faster, more robust and overall better, still that does not mean that all Windows® programs will suddenly run in Linux through Wine, sadly.
