It's not open, but it's designed for windows and linux; linux using a schell script (loki type thing) to install.

My favorite so far is Nexuiz. I'm going to try out OpenTTD. I'm into those sort of games, didn't know it existed :).

Nexuiz (by far), Sauerbraten has a lot of potential...
Warsow is quite possible the best shooter for e-sports. I've never seen that level of players in any other online FPS.
I just played through the Penumbra demo, and I really like the concept. I think I'll buy it... if setting up a PayPal account isn't too much of a hassle.

Tip for Ubuntu and Debian users:

If some of these aren't already in the repositories, then most of these can be downloaded in .deb packages from getdeb.com. For us newb, or just lazy users who don't want to have to keep track of where/how the stuff gets installed.

Love the games btw, I'm officially addicted to OpenTTD.

One game that hasn't been mentioned is truecombat elite. I used to play this all the time on linux. It's an Enemy territory mod. Not sure about the license type though.

Another vote for Penumbra, also like Enemy Territory.
