Error while updating Tribes 2

I keep gettings errors like this when I try to update Tribes 2:
loki_patch: dynamic-link.h:57: elf_get_dynamic_info: Assertion `! "bad dynamic tag"' failed.

How can I fix this?

I found and fixed the problem. A mini-howto for anyone else who has trouble updating a Loki game is available here.
