Error trying to run ut2004demo

I've been trying for a few days to get this demo to run just to see what gaming in Linux is like. I actually had it working once but in my many kernel re-complies to reconfigure my kernel to the way I like it something broke. This is the error I get after the splash screen disappears:

X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 144 (XFree86-DRI)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 ()
Value in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 34
Current serial number in output stream: 34

I have installed the 2.6.4 kernel with the agpgart and via-agp modules. I have a VIA chipset motherboard running an AMD processor. An ATI Radeon 8500 128 MB DDR. I downloaded the 3.7.6 fglrx drivers, built and installed the module. I'm guessing I didn't do something right installing the ATI driver cause glxgears spits out a similar error:

X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 144 (XFree86-DRI)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 ()
Value in failed request: 0xc00002
Serial number of failed request: 29
Current serial number in output stream: 29

Does anyone have any ideas what this means? I've done so many different combinations to install the fglrx driver just to get this to work and nothing helps. I can't figure out what the missing piece to this puzzle is.

Thanks for all the help
Ryhner

I'm no good with ATI drivers. But first thing that comes to mind:
did you enable DRI support in the kernel? I'm under the impression that's what ATI drivers use.

run these...

fglrxinfo
dmesg | grep fglrx

and see if it gives any relevant information.... I know that the 3.7.x drivers seem to not like amd processors though. I cannot use full screen opengl on my wifes computer with the 3.7.6 drivers and an amd processor...

fglrx error and dsmeg | grep fglrx info

Here are the outputs of fglrxinfo and dsmeg | grep fglrx:

Forget everything. I got the ATI driver to work properly.

I basically reinstalled XFree. Made sure my kernel was setup with modules for my AGP chipset.. Added modular support for ATI Radeon DRI. Then made sure XFree starts without setting up the fglrx driver. Then bulit the fglrx driver and configured a XF86config-4. The only change I made was to use the external AGPGART. The rest all defaults. Now I get proper info from fglrxinfo and glxgears runs with 2000+ FPS.

The problem now is that ut2004demo doesn't stay running for very long. After about a minute of cruising through the menus, ut2004demo crashes with this output:

Xlib: extension "XiG-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD" missing on display ":0.0".

[1]+ Segmentation fault ut2004demo

Anyone have any ideas what this is now.

Thanks for the help Rounan and trey85stang. It pointed me to the right direction. Now I'm one step closer to running ut2004demo.

Ryhner
