Enemy Territory (You are using software Mesa (no hardware acceleration)

I have downloaded and built the latest ATI drivers and the fglrx module. I got a few warnings about tainting the kernel but they seemed to install okay. I have edited the XF86Config-4 and changed the driver to fglrx.

My problem is that when i try to run Enemy Territory for linux i get the error:

GL_RENDERER: Mesa GLX Indirect

***********************************************************
You are using software Mesa (no hardware acceleration)!
Driver DLL used: libGL.so.1
If this is intentional, add
"+set r_allowSoftwareGL 1"
to the command line when starting the game.
***********************************************************
...WARNING: could not set the given mode (4)

I'm pretty sure I'm just missing something simple.
Any help would be appreciated.

Do not edit XF86Config-4, instead run fglrxconfig and follow the instructions. It will build a new XF86Config-4 with all the things needed for the card.

Basically that tells you that your installation of the ATI drivers did not complete fully and your system is still running the MESA drivers. It took me a couple of tries to get mine to go through (ati 9100 radeon) and you have to be sure and use the "--force" in this situation. Once it does work, though, ATI's drivers do a nice job supporting OpenGL!
