DRI Issue - Help me...

My error

Code:

tux ut2004demo # ut2004demo
open /dev/[sound/]dsp: No such file or directory
libGL error: InitDriver failed
Either GL_EXT_bgra or glDrawRangeElements not supported- bailing out.

History:

Exiting due to error

the sound issue is beacause I didn't choose my sound device when compiling my kernel, I wanna get the video issue fixed then I'll compile the kernel again for that.

I have DRI installed...

and glxgears works but with an error...

Code:

tux ut2004demo # glxgears
libGL error: InitDriver failed

Is this a new kernel (upgrade), or just the one that came originally installed with the distro, which you are recompiling for whatever reason? What drivers are you using for the ATI card (kernel or ATI proprietary binaries)? It looks like they are either not properly installed, or only have limited 3D hardware acceleration (which would make sense, given that this is a laptop, right?).

It's a bit hard to pin this down without knowing what you've done up to this point, and what you're working with.

Mytherall 03-02-2004 07:44 AM

Gentoo Linux 1.4 (from the Live CDs)

the linux kernel came with the cds.

I can't use the ati driver because my card isn't supported by it.

But the card is capable of running UT2K4 as I've gotten it to run nicely on Windows and I've gotten it to run on SuSE.

motub 03-02-2004 08:06 AM

How did you get it to run on SuSE? That would seem to be the starting point of figuring out how to do it under Gentoo (as long as some special SuSE optimization isn't involved).

.... and if you can't use the ati binary, then what driver are you actually using? Is it the same driver you used under SuSE?

I only used Gentoo briefly, but you might also want to check on their most excellent forums to see if there was an optimization flag that you did not use when compiling your current drivers (but should have). :) .

to get it to run on SuSE I had to install DRI which I've already done and the driver I dunno becuase I choose it yast, it was the choice for ati 7500 cards

/me reads through that more carefully, looks like I've got some work to do help appreciated.
