If your getting 10-15 fps in doom on an old card like that it sounds like you have 3d acceleration working. The Linux version of Doom 3 is slower than the windows version, because of lack of optimization. Apparently the developers were forced to rush the Linux version so it could be released. That's what I read somewhere. In the same article I believe something was said about a patch being released that would improve the performance of Doom3 on Linux.

The Linux version of Doom 3 doesn't have the assembler code ported over yet, as it was included in Visual C .NET (if i remember correctly)

You can expect speed increases once that's been ported over.

Is there any other programs or utils that will help increase the speed of the game, that are available now.

I have a very similar problem..

I execute Doom3 and then blank screen. The X still runing. I can still hearing Gaim sounds for example.

Also Ctrl + Alt + Backspace works fine killing X.

Video is a ATi Radeon 9600XT and drivers are working fine...

glxinfo say direct rendering yes and glxgear are about from 2000 to 5900 FPS. Before driver installation were 800-1200.

Any sugestion?
