Unhappy Disney Interactive for my daughter

(Not-so) Short background:
I have a 3-CD set of Toddler games from Disney Interactive that my almost-3-year-old daughter absolutely adores. She playes them with her grandpa on his WindowsXP computer.

Yesterday she asked him to play but he was "busy." I grabbed the CDs and tried to get them to work on my slackbox (10.2, kept up-to-date) with wine 0.9.20. I tried for almost an hour to get any of them working. At the end of it all, I had to try to explain to a sad little girl that they didn't work on my computer. She had watched them install successfully, so she thought I was lying to her. She didn't understand they don't start properly. Her crying was a bit more than I was ready to bear at that moment (being already frustrated because they wouldn't start). Please help...

The Error Message:
When I try to start the program (whether from the start menu, CL, or clicking on the icon in konq, and whether calling the command from my "C:" or the CD), a black screen comes up with an alert box telling me that my video driver is not allowing the program to automatically change the Display Settings to 16-bit color.

What I've done:
I've Googled, searched these forums, and written to Disney. That last one only because several of their titles (including those included in this "learning pack" when sold separately) claim Linux compatibility. Nothing yet. Perhaps I've missed something.

I appreciate any available help. Thanks in advance. (My little girl thanks you too.)

Matt

which games are these? Its kind of looking like some are for linux as well.

There is a program called "cedega", http://cedega.com that MAY be able to play them. First, you can tell me the names, being I am a member there, I can check the game list to see if they even work or not; if they have it listed that is.

The 3 titles are:
  1. Winnie the Pooh Toddler
  2. Book of Pooh: A Story Without a Tail
  3. Mickey Mouse Toddler

At least some of these claim to be usable on Linux when packaged separately, but the 3-pack says Windows and Mac only (and my experience seems to prove it).

Thanks!

not listed, which pretty much means no one entered it in the list; doesn't neccessaily mean it doesn't work.

IF you really want to try it, http://www.cedega.com it's $15.00 for 3 months.
I'm not sure if slackbox or whatever distro you're on has a forum.

edit: may not help much, but wouldn't hurt to post:

http://transgaming.org/forum/viewtop...ghlight=disney

they talk some about certain games that work and don't work.

Just a thought but have you tried setting your xorg.conf to 16 bit and trying the games?

Not yet...it's a good idea though. I'll give it a try and let you know if it works. (Out of curiosity, if it does, is that something I could script to make a single-click icon to take care of the work for me in the future?)

I just had a quick look at xrandr but it doesn't seem to affect colour depth, nor do the settings in kcontrol. Sorry I can't be more help.
