k i post the adds here:

You have to installe Truetype fonts under x11 too.
If you don't do this you can only start a cs game in Steam -> Servers with a double click on a cs 1.6 server, because there is only the background image of the game when you start it.

The second add is one for the performance. When you started steam set the nice of the wineserver pocess to 19.

Hi.. I have acctually got steam to update to a 100 %. But when I try to run it I get an error and it hangs.. So Untill the cs crew removes steam, it's almoust impossible to get it working just right :P

magamanX i disagree......
www.quakeforge.net

quake1 was the first ever TRUE 3d engine, its soo old, out dated, and crap graphics, but the quake comunity is still very much alive....... some games... quake, and maybe even counterstrike are classics which will never die.

Mega Man X 11-26-2003 07:12 PM

Quake is one of my favorite games (after Megaman series :), lol) and I really am proud of it's engine. It's very fast, portable and the most impressive is that the original Dos Quake was made with a free compiler. It also has a lot of OpenGL and even DirectX extensions and mods showing how easy to maintain and upgrade an very well coded engine is. Quake 2 is also good, but I kind liked the "Gothic" ambient that Quake1 shows.

Half-Life... what can I say of positive... Perhaps it' a pioneer at the genre of FPS mixed with a somewhat "story line". To be based on Quake 1 and 2 engines, it has way to many bugs to make it fun. Losing surfaces, sound, getting stuck at the poorly designed maps and so on. But then again, peoples might like Half-Life so much because it's a pioneer on it's genre. For me, it's just another bad game getting dust under my bed which got too much attention for what it truly is...
That how I personally few about the game. I won't even say what I think about the company behind it...

There is a version of DeusEx for linux but it never got released by Loki, somewhere the code exists but it has never been released. It was beta tested by a few people but they don't seem to be sharing the code.

Sierra should consider looking at the PS2 market, if you can port to that you can port to linux easily and cheaply.

Mega Man X 12-17-2003 06:04 AM

Sierra drives their business pretty bad. There're some installers for Sierra games on the Xbox though... but I doubt that they are official. Counter-Strike Condition Zero is on the Xbox already. It's pretty clear that Sierra does not understand how portability works. I bet they just made a CS - Condition Zero to Xbox because it's just as easy to make Xbox games as it's for Windows/DirectX... They don't port because they are either lazy or just don't know how to do it... PS2 is though to develop games though... very limited texturing, but still could be done... But not by Sierra, because once again, they are lazy :D

Why dont we just spam the hell out of Valve to the point where they flip out and give us the soure code to steam and cs. No but seriously if we keep sending e-mails(meaning EVERYONE) to Valve sonner or later they'll have to port steam to linux. Sounds kinda stupid, but hey, a cariage without a horse sounded stupid, and look what happened.
