Counter-strike 1.6 server setup, i need help fast

Hey whats up all, this is my vary first, but most deff. not my last post on here, your other topics have been a real help, but i could find info on this issue, so here it goes

i am trying to install cs 1.6
i downloaded the newest hlds program, the .bin of course (which really screwed with me for a bit)
and now i am trying to extract the tar file,
this is what i am typeing at the root terminal
./hlds_l_1120_full.tgz

it begins like it should, twords the end of extracting the dod files, its gives me this

tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Archive contains obsolescent base-64 headers

gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--crc error

gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--length error
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

any help, do i need to redownloda the bin file and start over or what?

thanks guys for any help possiable!
Matt

If i wasnt opening the bin corecctly would it still make the tar file?
any help would really be great

Thanks,
Matt

you must decompress the file by typing "tar xvzf hlds_l_1120_full.tgz", then look the files and follow instructions on README file

i think i got a little further, i was reading around and tride running gunzip on the hld_l_1120_full.tgz,
it started creating the .tar file, now the original file is 424.6MB in size, with gunzip gets to aobut 654MB unzipped or decompressed it gives me this error

[root@linksys steam]# gunzip hlds_l_1120_full.tgz

gunzip: hlds_l_1120_full.tgz: invalid compressed data--crc error

gunzip: hlds_l_1120_full.tgz: invalid compressed data--length error
[root@linksys steam]#

now i know i am going out on a limb here, but A LITTLE HELP WOULD BE NICE!
i have re-downloaded the hlds file twice (2) now, is it possiable that both files i downloaded are corrutp?

Thanks,
Matt

does the distributor give you a md5 sum to check against? (then do so); does they give you an exact size to compare against? (then do so too).

i will look but i think they only give the rounded file size, i know its not 424.6MB exact, but i will look.
