Counter-Strike 1.6 CPU Usage

Hi -

I recently installed Cedega 4.2.1 in order to be able to play Counter-Strike 1.6 via Fedora (C3). The installation went fine and I had CS downloaded and installed in WINE in no time. However, when I started the game up, I noticed that the mouse movement was incredibly laggy. Knowing enough to check the CPU/RAM usage, I then discovered that WINE was using nearly 300MB of my 1GB of RAM as well as about 80-90% of my CPU (Athlon XP 3000+). It should also be noted that I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro video card. Does anyone here know what could possibly be causing these spikes? Thanks in advance.

- Jon

Have you tried updating your video card drivers? Maybe that will help speed it up.

As for memory resource hogging, what I do is load into a non-intensive GUI, like IceWM. If you play in GNOME or KDE then that REALLY hogs your system memory. Suffice to say, even playing in IceWM is still laggy for me in some parts of the map. I can only enjoy Counter-Strike in Windows XP.

** I need to amend my statement in that Counter-Strike:Source is unplayable. Counter-strike 1.6 works perfectly with great FPS since it's not graphic intensive.
