Hiya.
I have a problem with Cedega 4.2. I'm running Mandrakelinux 10.1 and I felt like playing some games on my newly installed linux OS (had a, shall we say, "unkind" experience with Windows and IE just recently). So I installed Cedega 4.2 as well as Point2Play 1.2.1 and tried installing GTA3. It installed fine, but when I started to play it - no sound. The game worked fine, but no sound! I tried switching from OSS to ALSA and vice versa. Nothing. So, I gave up and tried something else: Starcraft. Same thing, only this time not only was there no sound, it lagged too! Same procedure. OSS <-> ALSA. Again, nothing. Oh, and I've tried running the games in the console to spot any errors, but there weren't any. Anyway, I tried installing and running Diablo 2 + expansion, and suprisingly enough it worked like a charm. No sound problems, the movies play fine, no lags. So now, I'm REALLY confused
Any ideas, pointers? Thanks in advance!
Anyone? Noone?
If it helps any, I've just discovered that cedega isn't the only one that has sound problems. Some applications like Gaim don't even produce any or do with a lag. Example: I go to sound settings, pick a sound like "Send Message" and click "Test". Nothing. Just as I rise up to leave the puter (that's approx. 15 seconds afterwards) I hear the sound I wanted to test. Also, in TuxRacer, the sound lags for 2 seconds or something (example: I hear the popping sound 2 seconds after I pick up a herring and so on...)
Are you running kde? Or Gnome? They have these apps called sound daemons running when you start them up. In KDE, go into the "start" menu, and find control center. When in control center find sound server, where it says enable sound server, turn it off. In gnome, I don't exactly remember where, since gnome suks now. But just go into the start menu, and settings or sytem, and look for sound system, or something sound, and turn it off. These two features usualy block other applications from having sound. If you realy want in depth information on how to turn it off (sry, Im running blackbox at the moment, so im doing this off the top of my head) just reply back, and I'll go start them up, and see where to turn them off exactly step by step.
Hey, thanks a lot, RHLinuxGUY! Starcraft works, GTA III works and Tuxracer's sound is back to normal again! For a while there I thought about switching back to Windows *shudder* Thankfully, that ain't gonna happen. Now I can run a reliable OS on my puter AND play my favourite games!
Again, I thank you.
